Split Test Google Adsense

by Net-Income on January 1, 2009

google split testIt’s no secret that I love Google Adsense. Adsense is bloody fantastic as an easy way to make some money with a website. But it wasn’t until I actually tested Google Adsense before I was making some serious money with it.

Most Google Adsense publishers ad the code Google provides and pastes it as is somewhere on thier site, usually out of the way and normally in it’s standard mode with border and in the standard colour. Ok, if your happy making $5 a month, but if you want to earn $2000 a month you have to learn some basic Google optimization techniques.

On my sites I don’t use a border and the ad size I use mostly on information sites is 300 x 250 box. I won’t tell you the colour I use, because each site will be different. But my aim is to blend the ads into my content. Have a look at my finance site to see how I do it Cash Loans

But here’s one of my secrets to Google Adsense cheques of $2000 and more. Split test your Google Adsense! Tha’ts it. Run 2 different types of ads and find out how much you make from them.

Get 2 ads codes with 2 different channels. Run ad #1 for 1000 page views and then check your Google Adsense stats to see how much you earnt. Then change the ad and test it again for 1000 page views and then keep the ad that earns you the most. Then test again. There is no reason why you can’t expect an ad ctr of at least 15%

Change positions of ads. Change colours and experiment with sizes. There is no hard fast colour and style so split test your Google ads until you are on a winner. And don’t expect that the ads on one of your sites will work on all your sites.

Split test Google ads until you get a $2,000 cheque.

I am working on a plugin to take all the hard work out of split testing adsense. It shouldn’t be too far off.

Thanks Steve, sounds like a good. I have been doing exactly what you say, running the default code, trying to color match, but i do maybe need to spend a little time working it all in together.
