Wordpress Web Hosting

Owning a Wordpress website is one of the easiest forms of getting a presence on the internet, it’s like having big business cards all over the net, but using Wordpress as your sites content management system means you need a Wordpress web hosting package that allows for the addition of mysql database editing through phpmyadmin and Cpanel. Ther are many website hosting companies on the internet, but how do you find one that will allow you to manage your Wordpress website easily?

If you are anything like me, you’d probably like to have a website on the Internet but you just have no idea how to go about it. All this talk of Wordpress web hosting, bandwidth, disc space, and other jargon can cause one to say, “This is too complicated and technical, I just wanted to have a place to put all of my favorite skateboarding photos, cool information on ramp designs, and the best places to skate!” To get a website on the Web you have to go through a web host. The question is how do you find the web host for you?

If you type ‘wordpress web hosting’ into a search engine like Google you will get thousands of websites. Hit on one of these and like any product on the market you will see all sorts of persuasive propaganda to incite you to use their company; that is if you can decipher any of the technical jargon that only computer-heads can comprehend. Some web hosts offer free business cards with an account; some probably offer free watches…like all consumer industries you the buyer must beware.

I’m an Internet marketer and web designer, so I have specific needs from my web host. I need a hosting package that allows me full control over the backend of my website. And because some of my sites are in the 1000’s of pages I need heaps of data storage. Of course I also want it to be cheap but of a high quality that won’t fall apart while I’m using it, and I hope it would last for posterity.

It’s the same with a web host and web site scenario. You want to get the right deal for you, enough space and enough access to the public that you wish to associate with. As a novice who doesn’t understand all the jargon this can pose a problem. Are you an individual, small business, blog, or a big time corporation? What do you need and how do you get it?

As far as I can tell the Wordpress web hosting business is a lot like the fast food business. The big corporations have strict guidelines, will offer you special deals, and have monthly ‘cheeseburger specials’ and they are the ones I will spend my wordpress web hosting money on. I am not interested in the ‘Mom and Pop’ small time operators. I need great backup and I want it done now, and you don’t get that with small web hosting companies.

Some of the ellements you need to look for in a company who can host your Wordpress site is:

  1. Ability to be able to add more than one mysql database (I like at least 3 databases).
  2. Have the facility to edit your databases.
  3. Able to add Cron Jobs
  4. Data storage of at least 500 megabytes
  5. Can ftp using an ftp program
  6. Statistics
  7. Edit .htaccess file.

A smaller hosting company will probably not allow youto do all of this. I use Hostgator exclusively, but I am sure there are many quality wordpress web hosting companies out there and it’s only a matter of putting the time in and finding the one that suits you.

There’s nothing worse than having to find work arounds just because you hosting company won’t allow you to do what you want.

You can get all the hosting you will ever need forless than $8 a month here.
